Julie, thank you so much for a great class! I so appreciate what I have learned from you. Most important for me was the four step sketch process and how to use a grid for drawing a landscape, and the warm/cool scale for each of the triad colors on the color wheel. I have spent about 20 winters in Arizona and have so many photos of mountains that I want to paint, but these lessons are universally helpful to me in my landscape painting quest.
One reason I took your class was that a friend who took a class from you, Mary S., recommended you so highly.
Best wishes to you. Bonnie Fetzek
Julie,
Your “Paint Sedona” class was wonderful. I learned so much! The lessons you provided to help build our skills for doing the class painting projects were extremely helpful. Particularly useful were studying the reference photo and determining design changes, the 4 step sketch process, the color wheel and your splattering technique. Although my Sedona red rock painting skills are only slowly improving, your lessons taught me new techniques to incorporate.
Thank you, too, for so generously sharing handouts, drawings and your demo paintings. There were SO HELPFUL – especially for those of us who don’t have good drawing skills and who needed more concrete visual reference for the various steps of the painting process.
I really enjoyed being able to take this class online. I have long wanted to take your classes at Scottsdale Artists School but was not willing to make the drive. Having an online option is great – especially being able to review the class recordings. This capability enabled me to make a detailed and well-illustrated set of notes so that I can work on these skills and painting projects again. I am looking forward to visiting the “red rock” country to take photos and become more familiar with the area.
Thank you again for the great class and for so generously sharing your skills and materials with us! It is much appreciated!!

Hi Julie,
I just finished taking your “Paint Sedona” class. I also took a couple of your workshops with “French Escapade”. I love your way of painting and have learned so much by watching you paint and work your way through your paintings. Thank you for sharing your techniques and your willingness to share so many of your materials with us. I will be studying each of them. Stay safe.
Thanks again, Pearl A.
Hi Julie, First let me say how much I enjoyed Zooming with you during these classes. I have previously followed your videos – “Painting Cascading Water” and “Painting the Autumn Landscape” – both via Artistsnetwork.com which I found very helpful. I liked your style of teaching so did not hesitate to enroll in this Zoom class. Although I found the subject matter to be daunting I found that I learned a lot and even though I can see some things I could have done better I am quite happy with my final result. Hopefully I will be able to join another one of your classes in the coming year.
“I really loved my Zoom classes with you. I think you work hard to make the class real time and responsive, just like your in-person classes. And I actually enjoyed painting my own drafts in the privacy of my work space. Not quite as much personal pressure to perform well. And the critiques worked well too! Congratulations on leading during this Crisis-driven leap in technology!”
I really appreciate this nice testimonial to my virtual classes from a recent participant: “I really loved them….with you. I think you work hard to make the class real time and responsive, just like your in person classes. And I actually enjoyed painting my own drafts in the privacy of my work space. Not quite as much personal pressure to perform well. And the critiques worked well too! Congratulations on leading during this Crisis-driven leap in technology! Many thanks! Stay safe and healthy.
Best, Andrea”
Dear Julie, I live in the Isle of Man, a small Island in the Irish sea. I bought your book “Brilliant Color” on painting these wonderful colourful landscapes and it is the best book I have ever had. I have been painting and following your instructions in the book which has given me so much pleasure. I have never painted in oils before and found your instructions very clear. Now I bought your other book “Discover Oil Painting” and also “Watercolor Unleashed”. These books have been an absolute joy to me and so far I have painted 7 of your exercises and I am happy with them.
I am very grateful to you for sharing and I really have been going to bed with your book in the evening and reading every word you have written
Very best wishes from the Isle of Man, Jan.
Wow Julie, you are so busy and yet our learning goes on thanks to you.
I certainly wish I lived closer to be able to take your local classes. I’ll watch for you again and be there. Although I just started painting and immersed myself with taking classes, I have to say you are the best teacher/artist I have encountered. I learned so much from you and it has encouraged me to continue on. I finally got your book also and will order your on line videos! I’m on a quest to find my way. Kate
Hi Julie,
I am working on chapter 2 of your “Watercolor Unleashed: The Notebook”. Thank you so much for this wonderful material! I have learned more in one day about negative painting and wet into wet vs. wet on dry paper than I have in the past year from other books and videos.
All the best, Mary Haselow
Happy
Holidays to you too, Julie! I just wanted to thank you for all the information
you provided in the class I recently attended at Shemer. I was a total beginner
in the watercolor world, and I didn’t even know how to handle a paintbrush
until I watched you in class. I did my best to use my limited abilities to
produce a very abstract version of the original picture, and I appreciate your
help in completing that painting. I hope to put the learning I acquired at your
class to use in future attempts at painting with watercolor. Again, thank you
for your invaluable teaching and for the beautiful season’s greeting painting
in the email!

Dear Julie,
Absolutely great class! It was just what I have been looking for to improve my painting skills with oil. Thank you for your patience with me and for the demo which was very crucial to the experience.
I worked on my painting further and applied what I learned in your class. Although it is not complete I just might share it with you.
Hopefully you will return to Sun City Grand soon.
Fondly, Marilyn
Dear Julie,
You are a great teacher – fun, funny, inspiring, clear, easy to follow even for newbies yet advanced enough to take seasoned painters to new places (a great combination), kind while being honest (another great combo). It is a pleasure watching you create your magic, and I am enjoying watching my own work evolve. So happy I found you.
